It's shiny...

New version of 1.99 is up!
Apart from quite a few
performance and reliability tweaks, vastly improved name entry and
server creation interfaces, the ability to see each player in each
server via a floating panel in the server list, access to a new list
server that (seems to be) much more stable than previous versions, and
the ability to generate the server creation world list from the update
server - the GUI (Graphical User Interface) has been redesigned. From
scratch.
Prepare to be greeted by awesome scene transitions, low contrast, glamorous GUI elements, and more - as you play at framerates never before realized!
I have some more
reliability enhancements in the works - but I wanted to release this
now so I could perform testing with other players.
All the best,
-Aubrey
P.S.
I have included the best of FlyClub's current worlds in the default
world list (You've really got to line up those ramps and platforms better, FC :). Design a cool new world, and you can be famous too! Whirlds
will soon suport meshes, terrains, and custom materials - but in the
mean time - you can still build fun worlds out of boxes using FlyClub's
standalone world designer (in progress, currently somewhat primitive - but has major potential), or my Whirld Library editor panel (more complicated, much more powerful, requires that you own Unity 3D).

I absolutely LOVE the new GUI theme! It gives mars such a fresh feel! (Oddly hard to describe, but I love it!)
Thank you for featuring some of what few worlds I have published, and for giving a link to my creator! I will have to make an automated tutorial... For the first time since the whole Unity beta Server list break down, I was actually able to freely, and easily, connect to someone! (And ironically, I was looking back to how much I overlooked the master server, when I was in 1.9). THough I am spelling, you have left me spellbound! Again, thank you for the compliments, and support. Greatest version yet!

The new theme pwns, but might I ask why the buggy's color was changed? I heard this a few minutes ago.

Huge gaps under players names in player list.
Vehicle clones keep disconnecting, and not joining.

Yes, the paint scheme no longer has the deep purple undertones in it - but on the bright side, it now includes parallax reflections from other light sources like the sun!
I had to make the changes in preperation for user configurable color schemes...
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I must admit, the interface is a lot nicer.

"Must admit"?
LOL BabaG! Good thing we have you around to keep us from floating away :)

Sorry for being a downer.
Im a bit neutral on this version since it mostly seems to be cosmetic change but i also havent noticed any major problems yet. It seems to be a good version all in all.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
So - does this master server feel more reliable than the current 1.98 one? I can switch the release games to this server if it is an improvement.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
It feels great! My goodness, it feels so much more reliable! - In fact, it's almost like 1.9 before the crash!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Aubrey, I beg of you, PLEASE remove the object avoidance systems in the old camera modes - they are causing the the camera to COMPLETELY bug out while inside most custom worlds... (One frame, I have an angle on one side, and then the next frame, that angle displays the opposite side).
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Is it just me, or is the sky suddenly more blue? :O)
I have only just begun testing this version.
As odd as it might sound, it seems to me that the buggy flies much smoother than ever before?

AHHHHHH! AWESOMENESS! Can we make it an option as to wether lasers refect? By the way, what limitations will there be for blender files when you put blender formats in?

I have an idea for the server settings. Not A setting, THE settings. Maybe you could make your own custom settings and the would stick in your games? Like if you got the settings PERFECT, but you couldn't figure out how to redo them in your next game. No prob. They're there.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Soon, the Whirld format will support the storage of arbitrary data - such as default game settings - inside each world file. So if you design a world for dogfights, you will be able to automatically disable tanks and hovercrafts and switch on powered loops, for example.
Other than this, you can already copy and paste your settings from the IO field. So once you get everything tweaked to your liking, just save it as a snippet of text somewhere on your computer. (I used to generate dozens of email drafts a day with random text snippets - but now I have Evernote - it's great!)
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Rule of thumb: If you can convert it into a file that the Whirld library can read (obj should be fine), and it doesn't have enough polygons to bring the framerate to a crawl, you should be good to go!
And yes, a laser reflection slider is on my to-do list.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Oh, sorry - will do!
I always use the smart camera - but I suppose there are still those of you who prefer the classics :)
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Skyboxes should be the same. I have tuned up the server list starfield, it may actually be a bit more blue.
I haven't worked on vehicle physics at all in this version, but in the previous 1.99, I added super low body collider friction when the buggy is driving or flying and much higher friction when it is crashing. So it should be smoother whenever you fly into anything - but other than that, I am not sure :)

Aubrey, this is awesome. You have really outdone yourself.
I literally have no complaints.

Aubrey how exactly do you play in the apps. Because I have downloaded the bit torrent and it says to choose an application. And all I see are that I can put it in the iPhoto, ichat, and apple works. How exactly can you not play on the browser?
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
1.99 is still in beta stage, so it can only be played in the browser. If you downloaded Mars Explorer 1.98 via BitTorrent, you should have a .app file that runs as an application when you double click it.
What is the full name of the file you downloaded?
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I downloaded the 198-marsexplr.zip.torrent.
P.S I love what you've done Aubrey.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Oh! You need to procure a bittorrent "client" - it will know what to do with your .torrent file. Links to popular bittorrent clients are provided on the downloads page.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Ok... Release version (1.98) is now running on the new master list server!
Please tell me it is more reliable :)

Aubrey;
Sorry about the sky being blue thing... -It was a joke. :O)
I think the better flying actually is due to the very high framerates.
- It simply feels more responsive than ever.
Than once more for a cool game.
All the best,
- Johnny

Aubrey,
Can you make it an option to change the Buggy's color? Like a customization page that you could go to through the main-menu that would allow you to change at least the Buggy's color? I liked the red one better.... Anyway, other than that, I LOVE IT!!!! can't wait to get on it again!
God bless,

I like the buggy's blue color....
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Same!
All the more reason why I am looking forwards to color choice (Aubrey has said that this will be a feature)! Much better than having to just go with one color that not everyone likes.
PReferable the ability to choose between premade colors, and RGB colors.
(Perhaps three RGB sliders, and a color drop down, selecting a color form the drop down would set the RGB sliders to mimic the color, and allow users to tweak the color if they like)

Those gaps become smaller the more players are in a server. They are indented ^^
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
This version seems to be much less stable in Safari, for me anyway. I never had any *trouble with the other versions or the older 1.99s, but this one seems to crash Safari 95% of the time I try to join a game. It worked fine in Firefox though.
*EDIT: I mean no trouble other than the server list bugs.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Well, this version is one of the best ever Aubrey. The new color scheme interface is just phenomenal - i love how it fades when you click outside of it, doesn't make it as distracting...Anyway as far as bugs go, i have had Zero, Squat, Nada, Zilch, nothin so far. The server list is working great - Love the users in game panel on hover!!! - Gameplay is awesome 'cept for one little thing, buggy will sometimes unintentionally fly right through the ground...causing massive bugs, lags, and other such nasty details...
2 things i would like either coming up or implemented in a later version would be...
1. Old maps - bring 'em back please!!! I love those maps!
2. Buggy Customization - this has been talked about...just reminding =)
Thanks so much and terrific job on this one Cap'n Falconer! *salutes*

He has said many times he is going to bring the old worlds back when he can.
Edit: xorb doesnt always deactivate
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
In the old version, you could choose to force NAT or not. This was good, because some games had to have it to join and you couldnt join some games with it. Now it is always enforced, so the games that would not work with it will not work.

******** New Version Up! ********
- Gyride cam no longer occasionally fails to snap to the horizon
- Laser reflection is now a server slider
- Vehicles no longer emit bubbles when you are manipulating the server settings :)
- Camera view distance is now dynamically set based on your rendering quality level - allowing you to see much farther when playing at the higher rendering levels
- Server name bubbles now display correctly, and should have planty of room for ten player names
- Servers now reregister active players with the list server whenever anyone joins or leaves a game, ensuring that the displayed players are always up to date
- Other minor bugfixes and tweaks
In addition to these ancillary enhancements - a major upgrade has been implemented in the core networking logic:
Mars Explorer now DOES NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buffer networking RPCs (Remote Procedure Calls). RPCs are utilized inside Mars Explorer for networking tasks such as firing lasers, sending "tag state" messages, and instantiating player vehicles. Prior to this update, networked player vehicles were created using a "network instantiation" system built into Unity - which worked ok, but which suffered from several bugs. With this update, Mars Explorer allocates NetworkViewIDs and instantiates players directly - with a single RPC - and instead of storing all these RPCs in a buffer to be sent to new players whenever they join, sends specialized "initial state" messages to new players containing only the information they need to know about the game world as it currently exists.
This should completely resolve bizarre bugs such as players with no names, players sharing vehicles, players becoming bots, "ghosts", etc - and I am hoping that it will greatly reduce the non-responding players syndrome.
Being the first generation of this technology, there very well may be some bugs in my implementation. However, I am confident that this is the path to a bug free Mars Explorer in the future!
Please be sure to refresh your webplayers if you had them open before this comment was posted. The new system shares very little logic with the old one, so strange things will happen if an old client attempts to connect to a game hosted by the latest version :)

Details about this issue - (which is related to a new 64 bit plugin architecture in the latest Safari) - can be found @

*** Minor Update! ***
- Fixed bug in Whirld library that resulted in certain world boxes being painted white
- Fixed bug in network interpolation code that prevented vehicle positions being properly interpolated. Prepare for vastly smoother networked vehicle movement!
- Fixed bug that prevented player lists from being updated in the master server at the instant new players joined games
- Fixed bug that displayed a "you were evicted" message when a server had crashed after you had been evicted and rejoined
Note: if the message at the bottom of of your server list does not say "X Players Online - X Players in This Version" - or if no one else can see your vehicle - your browser has cached an older version of the game. YOU NEED TO CLEAR YOUR BROWSER'S CACHE, OR USE A DIFFERENT BROWSER!
Have Fun!

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. This game is the best now. In a few months, I am hoping to be receiving a cash prize for a movie I made in a competition. The movie included a CGI sequence that I made in blender. Since then, I have learnt a great deal about modeling and now am getting Unity some time after my birthday. Just asking (and this is for FC, eric or anyone else with unity), what Unity things should I try to get. I hope to get VERY serious about this (me and my friend was to make a FPS) and I want to try my level in construction in the mars explorer module.
All the best

Heh - if you can model in Blender, Unity should be no trouble at all :)
When you purchase Unity Indy, it comes with everything you need to get started in game development. Coupled with Blender and dedication, you should definitley be able to build your own FPS!

*** Yet Another Update! ***
- Major Networking Enhancements:
- Eliminated Connection Tester startup routines for enhanced reliability
- Fine tuned network position interpolation for super smooth player movement
- Incredible new technology to sync each vehicle's throttle positions and more. You can now see other player's wings flap, wheels steer, and thrusters activate!
- Major tuning in the networking physics for never before seen realism in vehicle collisions and tank "king of the hill" matches.
- New and improved tank handling! Track collisions are now simulated all the way around the treads - allowing each track to claw up vertical faces and drive over blocks much more effectively
- You can now BAN players (based on IP Addresses) from your games!
- Added the ability to hide & password protect your servers
- Vastly smoother gyride camera
- Classic cameras no longer confused by block worlds

The ban list is a simple text field, with each banned IP on it's own line. Each IP is followed by a space, and you can put any information you want about that IP (such as a username) after the space.
You can remove any IP line from the list to unban that user.
You can also copy and paste from and to the ban field, allowing you to maintain your own personal list of undesirables with ease...
One more cool new feature is that I can now maintain a global "master ban list" on the update server, which defaults the ban lists of new games with any IPs that have rendered themselves particularly obnoxious. As you can see, 467 has been awarded the distinctive privilege of being the first user to get themself master banned :)
"Hiding" your game simple prevents it from registering itself with the list server, so people that know your IP address will still be able to "direct connect" to your game even if it is hidden.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I see... Well in that case, THANK YOU! From all players on mars, thank you.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
So, to unban individual players, i can just delete the ip from the box?
And i can add names next to each ip, after a space so i know who's who, and will that stay, unlike my server settings?
But i cant enter a name in the ban box only, i have to have an ip?
Alright, sounds great :)

It won't let me play. Everything loads fine, if slower than usual, and then I click host game, because nothing shows on the game list. But every time I try to host a game the original games area fades away and the choices for hosting a game don't come up. Yet, my computer says it is fully loaded and that the screen should be there.
P.S. - the background is still there, though.
Edit - It works now. Don't know what was wrong.

I know alot of you hate the new ban button, but what else did you expect? A magical feature that automatically unbans non-noobs? Until Aubrey gets a scholarship to Hogwarts, we'll have to deal with noobs banning us for no reason. When we can finally use publicly visible, locked games, we can leave this ban drama behind. For now, however, just deal with the noobs and join games with kind players. If a noob bans you, you're probably better off not joining a game with them. Join a game that has people in it that you trust and you know won't ban you, and only ban as a last resort, so that we can all make Mars a more pleasurable place to play.

i would prefer if you could hide games once inside them, and add passwords to them once inside. And then be able to undo both of those at will. When in a locked game you would then be able to give permission to players trying to join, or not (Macdanes idea). I would also prefer that coded games weren't on the main game list.

My objection to coded servers being on the game list is that anyone can see who you're in a game with and when, it sort of erases the purpose of a private game.

» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I might have missed this somewhere, but where do you enter the code to see the coded games, not just make them? Because my computer occasionally says something like, there are no games under (enter code that I do not wish to disclose), and then I have to refresh the page to see any games.
EDIT: Ok, I figured out how to enter codes for games, but I still don't understand why it says there are no games under such and such code since they are entered on a game to game basis.

Hi Aubrey and my Marsxplr Buddies!
Thought I'd give my two cents on this version at last.
First off, fantastic re-upload, the friend scanner is something I've been waiting for for a long time.
The new look is refreshing and a breath of fresh air, and so are the buggies, even though I do miss the red buggies.
I also miss the classic worlds, but I do enjoy the user created worlds.
The ban feature, long overdue and the best feature that has ever been implemented on Mars, next to the boot feature :-).
I do have a suggestion, when I ban somebody, and they try to rejoin, it shows ":Insert IP here: tried to rejoin"
I, nor anybody else in my server should have to look at that if they try to rejoin multiple times, is there any way to get that off the board?
Also, lasers do not register hits on wings anymore, is that a bug, or was it done on purpose.
Either way, I would like lasers to register hits on wings.
That is all I have to say, thank you, and have a nice night/day everybody!
Sincerely - Dudeski

1. Lasers are not fully registering yet - Agreed.
2. The banned player should leave without residue - Agreed!

I think it should be showed, but not as a mass spam type thing. It should be like Macky's idea where it shows they are trying to join SOMEWHERE on the screen, maybe only to host and you can allow them to join or ignore them.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Shown in a window that can be closed then. The host shouldn't be pestered by constant reminders that someone is banging on the door.
To me, it's all about eliminating distractions for everyone in the game.

Actually Matt, if you get your settings "perfect" you can copy and paste your settings inside your settings box *the little box at the bottom of the "Server" tab* and onto a textedit file or some other word proccessor and then just copy/paste into that box everytime you play. =) Thats what i do. lol
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I think it should be shown just one time, so you know if they are trying to get back into the game...just my opinion though...

This has probably been posted before, and will probably be posted again, but what happened to the old worlds? Will we be able to use them in 2.0? Can we have that Old texturing and lava and etc.?
Thanks
Simonoz
» Reply to CommentYES YOU WILL GET THE OLD WORLDS!!!!!!
All the in-game things that we came to know and love (including pink buggies, and original maps) WILL become available again!!!

*********** New Version Up! ***********
- Interpolation logic redesigned (yet again) based upon some research I have been doing on the core principles of Unity's networking system
- MacDane's server password / invite system has been implemented!
- Server network physics and interpolation strategies can now be customized in the "Network Presets" section of the server panel to optimize the performance of your game
- Server passwords and invisibility status can now be modified in game
- Player ping times should now correctly calculate the ENTIRE travel duration of each network packet - and not just the duration of the last leg of the packet's journey. This will make the displayed pings more accurate, and also help to smooth in-game player movement
- Fixed chat textfield breaking when other game panels were open
- Laser gravity now defaults to off, making aiming easier for new players
- Various other tweaks and bugfixes

It was the same for more, i'll restart safari and try again.
Edit: Still the same.
Edit: Works now. Looks good. I have been noticing problems with rams though. Often, obvious contact does not register.

Aubrey,
My heart goes out to you and your dealings with Unity bureaucracy! That documentation slip of theirs is incredible and so is the fact that you have to FLAT OUT ASK them if you made the wrong choice in using Unity as your game platform!!!! OMG!!!
Thanks so much for your hard work!
If Larus needs convincing, may I suggest inviting him/her to join a well-populated 1.98 game and have him observe the spawn pad for several minutes. :)
I am convinced that at least some of the difficulty connecting to running games comes from;
1. Host trying to close and only clicking the exit button ONCE.
2. Hosts BRBing by clicking off and/or minimizing the game page and going to email or iTunes.
3. Change vehicle (1.98) also often changes player's status to Not Responding, Delayed, No Connection.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I recently saw in 1.98 a name tag separate from the vehicle initial and score and that player's buggy disappeared. Once I lasered above the name tag, I became quarry and that player's tags reintegrated. They were separated by about a spawn pad's worth of distance. When they became quarry again, the tags separated again.
BAM!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Not-connected players still dominate servers after it's been running for a while.
Lasers still do not full register, the main problem is the wings.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
I have a question, how do you join coded games using a password? I know how to make it but i cant see how to join one, unless you enter the code in the same place where the host would enter the code, before making the game. I can't test this since i cant select the server settings button (before making a game) when i already have a server open on another page.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Yay! Welcome Messages!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
You click on where it usually says Join Game, but now says password protected. Afterwards, it will ask for the password.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Oh, ok thanks!
But wait, when i put in password, it doesnt activate until i hide game so i cant click to join a game if it's hidden, right?
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
If you've chosen to hide it from the server list you can't join it no, if its just locked by password you can click on the button on the server list.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
i think that once you make a server, then decide to passcode it, it HAS to be hidden. Not sure.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Really, I didn't know that... I'm not sure about that either.

************* More new stuff! ************
- Major interpolation tuning, based on continuing discussions @ the aforementioned thread on Unity's forums. In addition to being able to control the overall networking strategy in the settings panel, you can now also manually adjust the server's network interpolation time. (Hint: When you see a ">" flicker next to someone's name in Mars Explorer, it means that a state packet hasn't been received for them recently enough to continue interpolating their position, and that the networking has switched modes and is now extrapolating their position based upon their last known state). The higher you set network interpolation, the smoother the networking is (especially for people with slow internet connections). The lower you set interpolation, the more accurate everything is (players are closer in reality to where you see them on your screen, and their reaction times are less delayed).
» Here's an excellent article on multiplayer networking that will explain all these terms and more, and help to illustrate what Mars Explorer is doing behind the scenes. FYI: Mars Explorer is modeled with a non-authoritative server architecture. (Great for advanced network physics and hardware efficiency - not as great for hack resilience). - Fixed realtime player input syncing. Now you can see other player's wheels turn and wings flex!
- Lasers now intelligently sync fire time, hit positions, and more - making then fully network latency aware for a much more accurate laser tag experience. Whenever you see a laser hit someone, the other player should see and feel it hit them on their client as well.
- New server feature: You can now define a custom welcome message to be sent to new players when they join
- New whirld feature: Whirlds can now specify default server settings and welcome message
- Buggy now rights more aggressively, giving you cooler bounces and faster crash resets
- Starfield audio now plays correctly when returning to list server after exiting game
- In active development: Next version of the whirld library - capable of loading textures, meshes, and terrains!
Notes:
- "Coded" games have been depricated. You can now either "hide" your game - which will prevent it from even being registered with the list server, or password protect it - which will allow anyone to find your game, and join it if they have the correct password or if you invite them in. You can hide and/or password protect your game from the server settings tab when starting a game, or the server settings panel while playing a game. Passcoded servers do not need to be hidden.
- In all my testing, wing laser hits are registering perfectly. Could someone verify that this is still a problem, or than my new laser collision detection code has resolved it?

Hi Aubrey. This gets better every week! The server message is great! Just wanted to ask if you could have a look at my post on the Cheese islands. It would be great to get some feed back form you about it.
Keep on working! This game has the best gameplay I've ever seen in a 3rd/1st person driving game! I'm getting Unity in about 2-3 weeks!

In the past two days i've only seen one game, the same game. I like the new features but id also like if there as an input button or feature of some kind so that when you are messing with settings and using WASD controls, it wont change the password and such. Other than that... Great!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Well, this is great! I'm off to find some servers right now!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Alright, im now convinced. For the past three days, the only server i can see, inlcuding my own, is B-man's, which i cant even join. I've refreshed the page, the list, Safari, and STILL it's there. Great...

I was about to suggest people trying the alt. list, but then realized it wasn't there anymore... Anyway, I've got a server running right now. I'll edit this post when I take it down.
EDIT: Direct Connect worked for me along my local network, but I'm consistently getting Master Server Connection Failure on my Powerbook.
EDIT 2: It seems that the list is back up again! I've had 3 people successfully join at this point.

AppleSky's game - Not visible to me in Safari or Firefox.

» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
???? what problem and what fix??
as apple got a game going, and me and some others were able to join and have some fun, and no it was not a direct ip connection
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
And sorry about the game, I was trying to plug my laptop in, then bumped the power cable to my cable modem, which made the wireless router lose connection. In attempting to fix it, I accidently turned everything off! lol. It's back up now.
EDIT: And it seems that the list is down again :(
Except for B_man's game that is....
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
nope B- mans game is gone, well at least on my computer

» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
who is b-man anyway?
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
And it seems the list is back up again!
EDIT: Well, it seems that everyone else, that I know of, is having trouble making visible games. Mine seems to be fine though.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
well for now i have found a way for this problem to be fixed and we all can play the game once more, to be able to play all you need to do is start a game and then give out your ip to someone so they can join the game and once they have joined the game, the game will show up on the list, meaning others can join and have fun, as i just proved this with the help of AppleSky and OzMar, as i gave my ip to Apple through a pm, and got him to open a second window as his game was working through the way i just told you, as i was the one who joined his game, and after Apple joined my game which was not on the list at the time OzMar was able to join the game as after Apple joined it through the ip connection, OzMar was able to join as well due to the game showing up on the list as i did not give out my ip to OzMar thus proving there is a way around this problem
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
***********************SERVER LIST BUG WORKAROUND*********************************
Simplified Version of Seb's explanation
When you host a game, you need to connect to your own game in a different window/tab using Direct Connect. Using 127.0.0.1 should get you into your server in the other window. After connecting, your game should (Hopefully) be visible in the list! You can disconnect the non-hosting window at that time. Good Luck!
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
The ip is always different depending upon the user who started the server.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
127.0.0.1 is to get you into your own local server from the computer that is hosting. Not for someone else to get to it across the internet.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Yep - Applesky was correct! There was a bug in my master server registeration routine which has just been rectified.
Incidentally, the version I uploaded to correct this issue also includes some other new features that are still being developed. Check out Seb's new Sky Monster world for an example :)
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
But my ip id different than that, so it would not work to get into my game.
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
Ah! Yes, I was wondering, what exactly is the syntax to a utm... Rather cryptic, lol. Or at least, how might I create my own UTM?
Can UTM files support syntax similar to a .OBJ as well?
» Reply to CommentRe: Mars Explorer 1.99 Reloaded
UTM files are a specialized binary format based upon Aras's MeshSerializer2.
By the time whirld mesh support is "official", I plan to be able to work directly with .obj files as well as .utm files.
Right now I am working on more robust more mesh support, terrains, custom materials, and more - and I should be able to release some of these technologies over the next couple days!
