Hey, Bagels here. Anyway, I am currently working on a hangar world that is soon to be unveiled, but you cannot have a hangar without spaceships, right. So here is the plan: If you want to make a spaceship to be in this world, all you have to do is make it in sketchup, blender, etc; then export to a unity mesh, and send it off to me. If I like the design, it goes in (don't worry, anything halfway decent will make it). I am looking for ships ranging in size from just bigger than the jet to around the size of the sky shark/sky monster. There might be room for 1 or 2 extra large ships hovering over the world, but the main thing I want is smaller ships such as dropships and such.

so you want an inside to them as well? or blank like the SkyShark/Monster?
Edit: do you want a cool inside to the ships or just some ramps and platforms like the Sky Monster/ or totally blank like the Sky Shark is?

I have a huge freight ship that can be in orbit. It's huge, really big. Too big for me to be bothered to make a detailed interior.

oh it is very easy to do, all you really need is the push/pull tool, and the scale tool, and a shape to start of with...... umm i will get you a link that will explain it a bit more

Its my first one. Needs lots of smoothing out, and maybe a complete rebuild. I'd like to know what yall thnk of the style tho. Lots different from Seb or GTR. Not sure if its Mars worthy.

I like the back space between the engines, but the engines seem too long and unstable, and the entire nose, from where the engines end just looks fragile, uneven, and unengineered. Try cutting off the nose, and shortening the engines, then, make a much "Stubbyer" nose.
But I do like the look of the arched area between the engines, it has a nice "colony ship" feel to it.

I was thinkin colony ship too. Ither that or some sort of luxury cruiser. I can see why you think its fragile cuz of all the sharp edges. The engines I know I needed to redesign. I have been trying to think of something totally origional but it not easy. Seb and GTR both use basivly semetric engines and I'm trying to develope a nonsemetric style but still something that looks good and sturdy. I put those engines on there as filler to get an idea of what I need for the rest of it. Still gettin used to sketchup so it will be a while. Aubrey has enough on his plate now neway. ok i do see some problems with this ship as i can see some faces that are facing the wrong way[i.e they are showing the negative face(the dark blue type faces)]
also i hope that all the areas have double sided walls, like they are white on both sides(with out paint) and not white on one side, and then that darkish blueish colour on the other side
also engines don't need to be that liney to look good + i got the engine on the Sky King, and the ones i showed on this post, and on that other ship i made from GTR

Seb, you are so paraniod that it won't collide correctly. It just WILL, ok? Mine has negative faces on the outside. Also, have you noticed that if you go through the floor on my ship, you don't keep falling. You stay there, because it has a collider on it. I am willing to bet any money that if you come out and crash into the opposite side of the face you were on, it will not go through it. Just because flyclub told you that doesn't mean it's true. (Yes, he told me that, but I have yet to experience it.)

Yeah, Aubrey has some form of collider thingy that causes negative faces to collide properly. but a direct import from Blender to Unity, shows that objects DO go through negative faces.

Oh, and there is a negative face in seb's sky king that I can show you. Somehow, I can go through it, even though other negative faces I can't...
MEshes can be weird, it's plainly good practice to double side faces, though they might NOT be prone to punchthroughs, they still happen, and the last thing we need is a living trap.

Yes all the walls are double layered. I read your coment about that on a previous thread.
Engines are gonna be a big deal for me, so I'm gonna be spending the most time on those. I have been expirementing with component construction instead of tying to do it all on the same file.
Im currently shifting my focus on this project and this ship may not go on this new world but I got another one on the way.

you want to see negative faces in action? well go to the Sky Monster which is housed in the Sky King, and looking from the rear end of the Sky Monster go up the right hand side to the ramp that leads to the rear end of the second level(don't go up the ramp) stop before were the side plate of the ramp should be and go through the gap(that face is still facing the right way on the sketchup version)
my point is it doesn't always work, and it is safer to have double sided.... well what ever you are making
hence why i have been stating the need for double sides

Hidden Geometry is on in this picture. It's a fighter class, but doesn't really look it. It looks more like economy vehicle.

First thing that came to mind was "Shuttlecraft!". Nice ship though, I can't figure out how to make good textures yet though in Unity...

if you go to filter forge you will get some good textures
simply drag the texture you like on to your screen then drag the file in to the unity projects list, then go to the terrain tool and click on the paint brush and add the texture, then apply it

Dang! I thought that the link was to a nice little Web Player streamed version of your ship. I clicked it a lot of times only to be "redirected" - or so I thought. When I looked at my desktop, I found about 20 copies of your ship!

Its not a jet its a space ship. kinda different. If you have ideas than get to it. It doesnt take that much time to throw a rough draft into sketchup and just work on it every now and then. Im an Engineering student and I can find time.

may i just make 1 suggestion though.
Could you make a ramp up to the ship so all vehicles can get in?
I don't really care where, make it look nice (and near an opening, of course)
It's just a suggestion, and you don't have to, but it might fit the look. (might)
If not, I'll just animate an elevator or something.

drop off, and when it comes to landing new ones pop out of no were, or wheels are set in the ground at all the places where it would land, and they speed up to match the speed of the ship, and bolt them selfs in place, when the ship is close enough to then

I would agree with you there but it seems like the wheels wouldnt fit inside those wings and the visable space in the main body and nose.
My first thought was, the wheels would only be needed to move it inside a maintenance hanger in which case(now this could be interesting but i dont know if you feel up to doing this with it) you could have several panels on engines, wings, fusalage and other random surfaces that are open and look as if there being worked on. These may be too drastic of alterations though but just an idea.

nice work, but umm it um needs some more work done to it
right click on the grey/blue faces, and go down the list to reverse faces, so they are all white
and umm you might need to make those wings a bit more solid, same with the fins
like umm

take note that the wings and fins are well more or less like a sphere(i.e they are closed of on all sides, and have a gap in between all the faces)

ok i got mine done! its not a big one that you can drive around in, its more of a scout vehicle maybe a bit bigger than the jet.




How the engine works: the nozzle in the middle provides thrust, and the weird things sticking out the back...well i dont know what they do. but the outer set of the weird things spins in one direction, and the inner set spins the opposite way.
Feedback on this would be appreciated!

Nice, bit the wings seem a bit out of place to me, if this is a spacecraft, I guess it's not a problem, but if it's a AIRcraft, the wings would make it go in circles.

Ok,i'm gonna have to think of a creative way to launch it, as it could probably not use a runway.
Electromagnetic gun shoots a shell with the ship in it, the shell burns up in the atmosphere, and the ship gets to space.

to answer your questions fai and PB, it takes off by hover pads inside it. just flick a switch and up ya go. and the things on the back, yes they do spin in opposite directions, but i think they would be more for stability. just so that single engine doesn't send it corksrewing away;)

well i have sketchup 7, which, as far as I know, cant be exported to unity. altough i think you can export it to blender then unity. And I yes i can make seperate objects for the rotating things.

You can convert SketchUp 7 to unity, it just takes 1 more conversion along the way.

Heeeey PB!!! I gots another ship for you. Its a remake of another one that I lost unfortunatly. This one is better however so its all good. Its a small ship but has a high poly count so I dont know if you can use it and if not I have ideas of my own for it. The landing gear and thrusters are seperate components so they would be easy to animate. Still room for subtle improvements but any big changes would be worth the effort it would take.
Well here are a bunch of pics. I had a lot of fun with this one(as my homework grades are falling:-P).

Im still needin to get unity and figure out how to convert but I'll try and get that done as soon as possable. tisnt a glider, hence the big engine on the back and the six little thrusters. Altho I guess if there was a power loss it could be treated as such. Unless you got it into a flat spin then the engine would cause it to come out backwards. bad things :- The following weeks are real crazy so no promises right now.

It just takes patience and practice. If you have an idea then just start it. It will take a few rebuilds but youll get it.

Due to the fact that Geek's City and my Spaceport are nearing completion, I really need your designs so I can effectively incorporate them into my Spaceport.
Please send them to me as soon as possible in .3ds format if possible
(if not in .3ds, then please send them in .blend, but I prefer .3ds)
I would rather not have them in .skp format.

I have a question, first when you give someone a model of filefront, does it have to be the right size, or can the person who you gave it to scale it before putting it in their world? Also if I built a ship would I have to do a unity mesh or something (i don't have unity) or could I just send it to you on filefront?
