UPDATE: I FOUND A 2 Week Old VERSION IN DROPBOX DELETED HISTORY AND WAS ABLE TO RECOVER IT!
Although it is missing some key buildings, it better to have something than nothing.
I have gotten over losing not just this 15MB project but all my other documents, including school related documents, and other designs such as my space vehicle lineup, and personal files. My decision is to rebuild this project with about 25 % that was left elsewhere (Dropbox, mobile devices, and online storage). Although this will take time, I am willing to complete this project no matter how long it will take me. This loss has indeed made me wiser and stronger. A new feature: BACKUP!!! Please keep up to date @ my blog. I will soon start posting updates on ALL my projects. I am sorry to disapoint you guys. I was in the final phase getting ready to import into Unity and adding wormholes, then waiting for Whirld 4.
*If some skeptics think that I am lying, know this: I don't have the heart to make up such a story. Believe it or not, I cried like a baby for 10 minutes... That is not a lie!*

The main city in the center is 1 km by 1 km, correct?
because my spaceport is about 500m by 500m or so, but the runway is about 1500m long
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
Yes the lake and the city contained inside are 1km radius. So the total area of the lake and city is 3, 140, 000 square meters. I will send you the map so you can arrange your runway and terminal.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
Gotcha
BTW, maybe we should wait for whirld 4/syn3h/unity 3. that way we will be able to have scripted worlds and actual wormholes and stuff
i still need everyone's ships, so I can do the animations. What I have so far looks amazing btw.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
I have considered it but an alternative to wormholes is jump points that can launch a vehicle a great distance upon contact. (GTR's cannons use the same tech). But weather or not I will wait for Unity 3 or Whirld 4, I still need to get the model completed by the end of June. Then we will see. And maybe I can send you my ships afterwards?

You know, I could see some really cool things happening here. A stargate facing a window, designed for a nimble escape. A jet screams by, relentlessly chased by another jet. Quickly, the jet zips into the stargate room, switches to hover mode, and lifts near the roof, out of sight. Furious at the evasion, the pursuing jet careens recklessly into the room and into the stargate, whisked away to a far side of the map. The pursued has escaped... for now. Fearing a quick return, the jet switches back to normal flight. Rebounding through the beautiful hallways, the jet flees towards a sure hideout, unaware that the pursuer has come back for revenge. Screaming past the windows, the follower glimpses the blurred form of his prey. Now is the time to strike. With a flurry of green lasers, the chaser blasts through a window, sending glass pinging off the chased. Fully aware of their predicament, the prey rapidly changes course, veering down a hallway and into the depths of the city's main structure. Hungry for the quarry, the predator smashes through what remains of the shattered window, scratching the paint and destabilizing the craft. Not to worry, the chaser is too determined to forgive and forget.
Through the tight hallways and narrow doors, the pursued screams towards a brilliant destination: the spaceport. With anything that can withstand the nothingness of space and many similar vehicles to their own, all that needs to be done is to simply park. With unnatural finesse, the follower yaws a perfect turn, gaining ground on the followed. Spying the door to the spaceport ahead, and fleeing the volleys of laser fire, the tailed is faced with a new problem. Some moron closed the door! The only way to open the door is to press the button beside, but there is no time. With a finely tuned red beam, the button slams into place, and the door slowly creaks open. Yet again, another problem is thrown in their path. The exit to freedom isn't opening fast enough to admit the jet's wingspan! Using skill like no other has mastered, the jet rotates with the wings perpendicular to the floor, only a few inches to spare. Swerving madly to avoid the many beams, the prey barely makes it through the door, leaving behind certain trouble.
The predator prowls the rows of aircraft in the spaceport, trying to make out the distinct paint of the quarry. Scanning left to right, he spots an unlikely occasion. The identical paint, but on a buggy! Throttling up on his engines, the buggy rips out of its perfect parking spot and screams towards the main landing strip.
Driving for escape, the buggy skids around a tight corner, spraying a small amount of dirt from the other vehicles. Plotting while driving, the buggy spots victory - the lockdown button. This button completely closes off the spaceport from the outside world for a few minutes - plenty of time for a quick getaway. With another precise red light, the button is hammered home. Revving the engine, the buggy screams down the main runway, launches off the end, and careens perfectly through the small gap between the doors. The pursued wins this round. FOR NOW.

Yep to see my dream of establishing a stable wormhole, the Stargate will require additional power known as Unity 3, Whirld 4 and Syn3h.

This is probably only possible with scripting, but it would be very cool if there actually could be working buttons and levers for doors and drawbridges and thing like that. Does anyone know how to script, that would be AWESOME!!

It wouldn't be any good. The Whirld System needs the necessary scripting for the wormholes. But I geuss we will have to do the best with another substitute.

» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
Interesting idea. As soem of you know... Si-Fi=Good. But anyways. It's an interesting idea. Also, what would be interesting is to have in Stargate Atlantis, in the gate room the puddle jumpers that come from the ceiling and go into the gate, it would be cool to have a small hole just big enough for a jet to comfortably pass through in the ceiling and fly into the gate. (The gate should have a miniature tunnel that goes somewhere else......

Stargates..... that can create a wormhole to a different stargate on the same planet. Hrmmm.... And also, could you get rid of the little yellow things on the sides, that's a little tooo close to an actual stargate. At least there isn't 9 of them....

Perhaps make a more realistic 3-D wormhole that could be about the shape and size of the spawn point.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
Will do. And what do you mean by realistic?
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City: Atlantis Now Merged With Bagel's Spaceport!
Well, in reality, a wormhole would look something like a black hole, in 3 dimensions I assume there could be 2 dimensional wormholes, but they would be less likely IMO. Now obviously there would have to be some sort of device, but maybe make it different than the one in the show.

maybe you could make a small branch of stargate sg-1 where a wormhole goes into the bunker and it's sorta like a dead end
in other words a fun killer
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City - Stella Port Version 2
Please do consider copyright issues.
Use your own take on wormholes, not the Stargate writers' take on them.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City - Stella Port Version 2
oh srry for the copyright thing but why not just a wormhole that leads to a cube under ground possibly with lava or water
a "dead" end

I considered the copyright issues. Thats why I am using Stella Ports. Latin for Stargate....Umm and yeah I got some dead ends...

No its delayed a week. I had to go to an important event out of town (like really really far away) and I am now a week behind schedule. The Sketchup model is almost complete. Then its Sketchup poly face testing, then into Unity, bug fixes, beta test release, then release candidate, and finally the actual world embedded into Mars.

I would strongly recommend not using any version of the word stargate, though it has been used in other context than the show.
In fact, if the name is copyrighted, then it may actually be the show that violates copyright.
just something to think on.
but please do make it look different.

Hi, I take Latin, and just as a thought, it would most likely be something like Portastellae (gate to the stars). I just find it kind of interesting. Also, in Latin you can change the order around as much as you want. Here are the various forms of both star and gate. I'm not trying to lecture you, I just thought it might be interesting to know.
- Porta (The) gate
- Portae Of (the) gate
- Portae To/for (the) gate
- Porta By/with/from (the) gate
- Stella (The) star
- Stellae Of (the) star
- Stellae To/for (the) star
- Stella By/with/from (the) star
- Stellae (The) stars
- Stellarum Of (the) stars
- Stellis To/for (the) stars
- Stellis By/with/from (the) stars

Well I would be lying to you if I said its easy. Time is hard to come by but I guess a quick meditation helps. Then I flip through my lexicon of 2D designs. Find candidates, and then decide and start. One way to increase productivity is have the project outlined in phases or segments. And disconnecting from the Internet helps too.

I still haven't figured out all the bugs to water... but I made the city so that the surface sits 20 meters above the "sea" floor. Now I suppose that the server host would have the option to drain and flood the lake and/or city. Another option is to keep the water level preset and permanent.

Well if this isnt finished by the end of August, then oh well looks like its gonna be a while...
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City STELLA PORT/JUMPGATE Design Poll
I like the first on the best. With texturing and shadows (BEAST LIGHT MAPPING!!!!!! ...srry...) it would be even better. I like that its simpler, and doesn't have the arrow thing in the middle of the ramp.

The whole ramp to circular machine thing makes it a bit too similar to be comfortably out of the realm of copyright law. lemme make a quick design posing an alternative.

This is something along the lines of what I was think of when I think of wormhole machines. This should not have any copyright issues. Of course, there are other options that I can think of. This is just one of my favorites.
I also strongly recommend using a generic "wormhole" or a name of your own design, and nothing sounding anywhere near "stargate"

» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City STELLA PORT/JUMPGATE Design Poll
Yeah I got that part. Nice design by the way.
Anyways I still want to keep the name with some Port in it... like tele port, far away port...
Here is a rough description... a pad with an orb... housed in like an open building... (pilars, a roof)

» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City STELLA PORT/JUMPGATE Design Poll
I originally wanted to make an orb type thing that looked like the spawn point, but once again there's copyright issues I can forsee.
To the pest of my knowledge, if the wormhole was two dimensional and in the floor, that should be out of the range of potential lawsuits.
However you could use an orb like thing as long as it does not look like the spawn point.
(It's not the spawn point that causes copyright issues, but another more-or-less wormhole type thing i can think of in a different game.)
Anyways. Very nice design. very "classy" with the columns and such.
I actually just thought of an idea for my design that you might well see in the spaceport :)
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
Dude think of it as a beam transport in the spaceport. Woosh away... Sorta like a hologram. Oh and speaking of spaceport, I also made a terminal building....with 5 different types of craft.

Also reasonable, aside from star trek...
I personally am not a fan of such a system, just for personal reasons. But within copyright it should work, and in reality it is far more possible than a wormhole. At least for human travel.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
I wouldn't be worried about "copyright" issues on anything you are designing. Unless it is a trademark (Hint: Mario is a trademark, a banana is not, despite both being used by one company), I wouldn't worry about it at all. I liked the gazebo looking style of wormhole. And don't worry about using the word "Wormhole". Wormhole is a hypothetical scientific phenomenon, and not a trademark/copyright. Here's a hint, unless it impacts the sales of that company that you may be making something similar to, they won't be coming after you.

Ah...well I know that, but Bagels has a point too. The originality thing. Yeah

We can't "delete" comments. We can just replace them. And it disappeared because the post can get too long and it switches to a weird view.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
who said they need replacing.
i can cover 'em up real good, but i wouldn't do that to myself...
anyway i was saying a teleporter instead of a wormhole works too, and most wormholes work. I personally dislike teleporter-style things, but that's just a personal opinion.
You should be ok on copyright issues, just remember that the machine needs a receiving end too. and due to lack of programing ability, they must be paired, you won't really be able to go to any other machine from 1 machine.

We replace them in the event it's spam, remember? That was what the self-made comment mod code was brought around for.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
Well the comment mod code i have completely removes the comment, does not replace it with

Hey Geeky,
I came up with a couple of names:
1. TGE Metro
2. 377th Geek's Nation
3. Empire Nation City

Believe it or not but one day I plan to buy me own island and build a small country called TGE Nation. Thanks for the suggestions

So if your waiting for whirld 4 to come out you could be adding more hidden things to the city.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
Exactly what I am sorta doing. I redid some parts of he city, including DVO's throne Room. Just fixing design flaws, reducing poly count and that kinda stuff.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City
You don't really need to reduce poly count, Geek. Aubrey has an LOD system in Mars and not to mention super fast networking interpolation. Unless you have a super, super, super high poly count (like over 1,000,000) then you don't really need to optimize too much.

Oh wow, not good.
I have no idea sorry. That really REALLY sucks! I sure hope you can recover this, it's taken all summer.

Dude no offense guys but Atlantis is not really the top of my worries. My important school documents are gone as well. Of course I have accepted the loss but I wish I could have it all back. I ran a scan for 3 hrs straight and came up empty
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City NEED HELP
Of course, but it's the part that affects me most. Sorry that was a bit selfish, that's absolutely horrible.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City NEED HELP
This defeat has made me stronger.... I will rebuild. I will use 25% of the model that was else where (Dropbox, school, portable device, and online) and I shall finish Atlantis. I don't care if this takes a year, 10 years. This time I will retaliate against my own fault... Although it may seem foolish, I just want to build Atlantis and well this time I will do some massive updating. And here is one difference in the new one already: BACKUP!!

How did you loose all your data again? Was it a hard drive failure of some sort? I know what it feels like; I've "rm ed" (command line deleted) my entire desktop while trying to create an application.
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City NEED HELP
It was indeed my entire desktop that got deleted. I was trying to delete multiple images that cluttered my desktop... so um kinda blew the whole thing. The reason it all was gone because of this utility I had installed, to show hidden files, and other stuff. Reinstalled OS X...
» Reply to CommentRe: Geek377's City NEED HELP
EDIT: I coulda sworn this was in reply to Achilles comment. I think the post has hit that "No Fancy Display" length :(
If your desktop is anything like mine, that means you would have lost 47.4 GB of data (That's 50,973,220,864 bytes), 23,244 files and 3,183 folders. Fortunately, I've never accidentally deltree -q C:*.* or anything like that. Just the intentional del tmp*.* or rm -r ./tmp every now and then ;)

For the record, I've cleared my desktop once, since I got this computer (Check the creation date in the screenshot). There's 200+ icons on the desktop.
